Influence of DEM interpolation methods in Drainage Analysis

چکیده

The accuracy of the Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) interpolated using four different methods was compared in two small watersheds in the Ecuadorian Andes. The interpolation methods compared were Inverse Distance Weighted, radial basis functions, ordinary Kriging, and TOPOGRID. A qualitative comparison was made between the stream network modeled in Arc Hydro and the digitized stream network. Modeled contour lines were also compared with the original dataset used in the interpolations. In addition, a quantitative comparison measurement was implemented using the Kappa coefficient of agreement. TOPOGRID outperformed the other models creating hydrologically correct DEMs, while Kriging and radial basis functions produced similar results of lower quality. Inverse Distance Weighted produced poor results especially in areas with gentle slopes. The quantitative comparison metric reflected the qualitative observations, and helped to evaluate the quality of a DEM when the difference in performance between two methods is not easily discernible.

A method of DEM construction and related error analysis

The concept and the computation of terrain representation error (ETR) are investigated and total DEM error is presented as an accuracy index for DEM evaluation at a global level. A promising method of surface modelling based on the theorem of surfaces (SMTS) has been developed. A numerical test and a real-world example are employed to comparatively analyze the simulation accuracy of SMTS and th...

Comparison of drainage-constrained methods for DEM generalization

In multi-scale digital terrain analysis, the main goal is to preserve the basic ‘skeleton’ with changing scales and to deliver more consistent measurements of terrain parameters at different scales. The drainage lines serve the basic morphology features and ‘skeleton’ in a basin, and therefore play an important role for most applications. Many drainage-constrained methods for DEM generalization...

Zoning hydraulic conductivity using different geostatistical methods (Case study Shavoor)

In studies of irrigation and drainage projects for drainage, it is necessary to extend the data from the sampling point to the network. Therefore, based on available data from observational wells, estimating the state of hydraulic conductivity (K) in the surrounding area. The estimation process values for locations where there is no information for them based on viewing areas called wells spati...

Morse and Drainage Description and Encoding of Images

In this paper we develop and analyze basic geometric structures for the topographic representation of images. One component of the geometric description is based on the Morse structure of the image, while a second one is connected to its drainage structure. These fundamental descriptors could be used as building blocks for a geometric multiscale representation of images in general and Digital E...

An enhanced technique in construction of the discrete drainage network from low-resolution spatial database

A digital elevation model (DEM) of a watershed can be used to acquire various parameters such as basin-wide information about overland flow direction, flow accumulation and area contributing flow to any point. The resolution and quality of a DEM are important to achieve a significant level of accuracy in derived parameters. Inadequate elevation information exacerbated by applied interpolation m...
